Hear how our developers built with Lightship VPS this past weekend.
Last weekend, 32 developers joined the Niantic Lightship team to learn more about building real-world AR experiences with Lightship VPS!
Over the course of three days, our team had the chance to connect with leading developers in the AR space as they tackled some of their first projects with Lightship VPS. As they built their demos with Lightship, all who joined had a chance to connect, train, and then compete for a $500 prize and a spot in an upcoming XR development course from Circuit Stream.
We were impressed by what everyone built, but one clear winner rose to the top: Doty’s Jam Sessions by Wonderment by Design.
Doty’s Jam Sessions connects people via the universal language of sound through a location-based audio visual experience. Using Lightship VPS, Doty’s Jam Sessions creates and loads persistent location-based jam sessions, truly connecting the sound to a physical space in the world. In the current demo, Wonderment by Design creates a short melody loop in the world around you, saves a jam session for a later time, and loads a loop at the exact place it was before.
This work impressed all of our judges and made them the winner of the $500 prize, virtual meet & greet with our Developer Relations team and Partner Engineering teams at Niantic, and XR development course by Circuit Stream.

London was just the first stop on our Lightship VPS World Tour! Want to join the Niantic team at our next location? There’s still time to apply to be one of the few developers selected for our Seattle, New York, and LA stops.
